
Saint Benedict Parish in Richmond, Virginia, was established in 1911. Construction began on the parish church in 1928, and the church was dedicated in 1929.
The architect, The Reverend Michael McInerney, O.S.B., wrote that his "purpose to create a reverential atmosphere worthy of the House of God; a place of sacrifice, a sanctuary for Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist; a temple where the faithful may congregate to assist at the Holy Sacrifice, to listen to the inspired word and to unite with their Maker in Holy Communion, contemplation and prayer."
